The AVL Lakes Association is a Minnesota nonprofit corporation comprised of volunteers who through their collective effort work to safeguard and improve all conditions on Lake Amelia, Lake Villard and Lake Leven.

OUR GOALS:

To preserve and improve the natural resources and public infrastructure that surrounds the AVL three-lake community.
To convey relative information to its members about best environmental practices, current state/local laws and recreational activities.
To collaborate with DNR, local government units, service organizations, local businesses and churches to provide amenities that enhance the quality of life for our community and lake(s) residents.

Updates from The Amelia-Villard-Leven Lake Association

BLUE ALGAE
Blue algae is a result of hot weather and stagnant water. It is dangerous if ingested by pets as well as humans and should be avoided at all costs. It is not permanent and you must be mindful if it appears in or around your swimming area and stay out of the water when present.

The survey to identify aquatic invasive weeds and other invasive species has now been completed. All three lakes were surveyed. The results of the completed survey can be seen on "Lakes Report" on the left hand side of the home page. It is more important then ever that we all use the free boat cleaning station located at the Amelia lake access. The spread of invasive species is growing in volume..Let's all do our part to preserve the quality of our waters for ourselves as well as future generations.
The AVL board's focus in 2023 and going forward is the control of aquatic vegetation that is exploding in our three lakes. We are investigating the most effective, affordable and environmentally safe ways to control native vegetation that has spread unchecked in our waters. We are exploring several methods to use which include mechanical means as well as chemical means. The overgrowth of this vegetation can be attributed to several factors. Some of these factors include run off of fertilizers, zebra mussel invasion, and other pollutants. Our objective is to inform lake shore owners of our findings and to provide everyone the information to help extract the unwanted vegetation. This includes permits, approved methods, and of course costs. We will inform all as we learn more.
The lake Associations annual news letter has been mailed to all lake shore residents. The letter explains the projects, the concerns, events, and more information that the Lake Association has been working on. If you did not receive a copy, please ask any board member for help in getting a cop
It is again time to support the Lake Association's efforts to keep our lakes clean and beautiful by paying your 2023 membership dues. We will, once again, be awarding early payers with a chance at donated gift cards by several vendors. We all know the staggering costs of inflation we all have to endure, and more then ever membership dues are extremely important for us to achieve our goals. On Oct.9 the lake association will conduct a tour to determine the flow of water that runs through our lakes. The trip will start at ditch 4, a man made dredged ditch used to help evacuate water from farm fields. The AVL will follow the flow as well as determine a strategy of testing the water. There has been an extreme increase in weed growth in our 3 lakes. Along with that, Lake Leven shows signs of sediment build up. An action plan of water testing and pollution control will be discussed after the AVL findings.
